Last year I blogged about my college aged daughter being taken for almost a hundred dollars from a horrible knock-off fake designer dress website called tidebuy.com. She had a specific dress she wanted but being on such a tight college student budget, she shopped around until she saw it listed on an internet website that she thought looked legit, and the reviews on the site sounded trustworthy. She didn't know that most of reviews you see on these sites are faked by the owners themselves. It was a tough lesson to learn. She was out almost $100 after the dress arrived unwearable. Literally unwearable... and unrepairable. (You can see her story here.)
I'm currently shopping for prom dresses for my 17 year old daughter and although I have 2 sites I know are trustworthy (I've ordered two dresses for my oldest daughter and one dress for my other daughter) I still get frustrated thinking that I *might* stumble upon a site that isn't legit when I look for designer dresses. These fake sites are primarily based in China. The Chinese sites use the actual designer photos (which they legally aren't supposed to do) and make you think you are buying the designer name dress, when in fact you are buying a dress they make to resemble it (if you are lucky) but is cheaper material, often the wrong color, the cut is wrong, beading and trim is wrong and often the repairs needed to wear it, cannot be made. (My college daughters dress was missing the half the top.) Granted, some people get lucky and get a dress they can wear, but most do not - so you have to be prepared to expect that. After my daughter showed me her dress and told me about her experience, I found a LOT of reviews online about how horrible the company was. That's probably how you ended up here as well. Good for you for trying to do some research before spending hard-earned money.
This year I stumbled upon a website that has a BLACK LIST already made (and apparently is always growing) as people submit known forgery sites. Sure enough, Tidebuy is on it (the horrible site that stole my daughters money, refused her a refund and stopped answering her emails).
I love that they are doing this service; You can find the black list here: www.toppromwebsites.com as well as a page of sites that are true and trusted and safe to purchase from. Thank you Top PromWebsites!
BLACKLISTED: Do not buy from these websites unless you are ready to accept the fact the site might not be secure for payment, are willing to wait up to 2-4 months for shipment (even if they promise 3 weeks), the dress will not be authentic and will more than likely be cheaply made.
