Cruise On a Budget... with Vacations To Go

Right now the wind is raging outside my window and the local news has reported we are under a windchill advisory. The winds are making the temperature tonight and tomorrow hover around -25 below zero. Yes, I said below zero. And it's just the beginning. I will never forget traveling home on Christmas Eve about 12 years ago when the temperature was -50 below and with the windchill it hit -75 below zero. It's no wonder that the people in the heartland of America travel in droves to warmer temperatures come January and February! The gray skies and freezing temperatures really wreck havoc on your emotions and you need sun!

I am always looking for budget friendly travel ideas and about two or three years ago I signed up to receive email specials from Vacations To Go. I regularly log in to see their latest cruise specials since we've wanted to take a cruise with the kids before my oldest daughter graduates high school. My husband schedule however is crazy and hectic as we never know more than a week or two in advance what he'll be working. This makes planning ahead difficult but we've had some wonderful spontaneous trips; like the time I picked him up from work, having packed our suitcase and stopped by the bank beforehand, and we made an impromptu trip to San Diego. My husband had absolutely no idea he would be doing anything that evening after work besides grabbing a bite to eat and watching tv before bed. Instead we headed to San Diego with no plans, no reservations and no qualms. Just found a hotel off the interstate, got some sleep and spent the next day playing tourist at the San Diego Zoo and doing some sight seeing and shopping!

More recently I've been haunting the Vacations To Go looking for great cruise deals. They have something called the 90 day ticker in which cruise companies post amazing prices to fill up their ships as a room filled at 75% off rack rate is still better than an empty room! For example; a cruise to the Caribbean on February 9th from Miami, FL on the Carnival ship Imagination is as low as $239 per person.
