When we moved into our current home the kitchen cabinets and woodwork throughout the house were all in maple with maple wood floors. Our current coffee tables, bedroom suite, side tables and dining set were all a dark espresso wood.I didn't give it much thought until we had friends over and the husband made a comment about how he liked how we mixed and matched woods; that it 'worked'. Hmmm. I hadn't even noticed we did until he said that!
After that I got pretty self conscious about my 'mixing and matching' of woods. But... I've gotten over it. And it made me feel better to spy this photo in a very popular home magazine, also touting the beauty of mixing woods.
Now... how can it save you on your budget? By mixing and matching woods not only do you get creative beauty, but you are;
- more likely to be able to use pieces you already have without purchasing new pieces
- being able to use heirloom pieces with pride and love
- use expensive woods in the most high visible places while substituting less expensive woods in more expansive area's
So mix and match those woods with pride! Save money... but shhh! Nobody needs to know. Let them think you are just hip and chic and decorating in the latest and greatest fashion fad.
