Today we put in a new front door (a whole other post on that coming soon) and while standing out front on my porch looking at it I saw staples sticking out of the framework around the door. This is because every Halloween I decorate our front porch with everything from huge black spiders and eerie ghosts peeking through the glass to huge spiderwebs encasing the entire porch and doorway. The staples were left in because they were too difficult to pull out by hand at the time but then quickly forgotten through the long cold winter. Today I saw them, pulled them out with a pliers and in the process started to think about Halloween and how quickly it would be here again.
Thus; Halloween on the brain. So here is my next thought. When did we go from real costumes (like these that I made/came up with for my own family);
....to running around half naked and calling it a Halloween costume???
This was actually one that was semi-tame compared to a couple I saw on this site;
but I decided I really didn't want to put photos on my site that were at the very least rated PG-14. So... I ask again, when did we decide that All Hallows Eve was actually a good excuse to strip naked and call it a costume? Sorry... not impressed. Some of the costumes left nothing to the imagination without blurring the image or blacking parts out. If I was shopping with or for any of my teenagers on the site I'd certainly be clicking "next" really fast!
However, I did find some cute couple costumes and although some were a bit tongue-in-cheek, I did actually chuckle when I saw them. Like this one;
They also had a "bun in the oven", "ball and chain", ketchup and mustard and a couple other cute ones (although again, I didn't find the walking pieces of poop funny at all). In the end though I smiled at the sweet infant and children's costumes they offered (a banana, Wonder bread and a whoopie cushion!? LOL)
