Homemade Wallpaper Paste

I'm always interested in the keywords that bring people to my blogs. I'm especially interested in the fact that so many people are searching for homemade wallpaper paste. I assumed that most people probably purchased the pre-pasted kind and when and if they wanted more to reinforce it they would buy the extra paste as well. I'm so GLAD to see that's not true simply because you know I love making things from scratch! I grew up with a Mother that always made up homemade paste to 'reinforce' the wallpaper she hung and knowing that people are still wanting to make it from scratch brings a smile to my face.

Wallpaper paste from scratch

1 1/2 cups white flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 tbsp alum
1 cup cold water
2 cups boiling water

Combine flour and sugar. Slowly add cold water and beat/mix out any lumps. Put mixture in a saucepan over a medium heat. Add the boiling water, and stirring constantly, bring the mixture to a boil. When stiff, remove from heat and add alum.
