I admit that when I first received this scanner from the uber-friendly people at Neat Receipts I thought it was just another scanner. After seeing it in person I have to admit my mouth dropped open more than a few times while reading and seeing what it was capable of and I found myself uttering "Oh my gosh... wow" more than a few times.

Use it to go 'paperless' in your home or workplace and jump into the digital age. By scanning all your receipts, business cards, personal documents, taxes, expense reports, photos and more you lose the clutter of paper but you never lose a receipt. They are now organized, digital files saved in a database in your computer.

But what's so great about that?

NEAT Receipts reads your receipts and then? Can put it in a spreadsheet for you to help keep track of expenses. With the click of a button it can tell you how much you spent on groceries last quarter, how much you spent on gas last year or even how much your medical bills were.

Seriously! I scanned a receipt and suddenly my computer told me it was a receipt for Costco for $264.78 and even told me how much of my total was sales tax. If you scan a receipt that isn't one of the 1500 that it already recognizes, you just type it in yourself, giving it a category and it will 'remember' it for future scans.

For taxes it does almost all your work for you;

• NEAT Receipts will export your deduction information right into Turbo Tax (it’s a one step, automatic process) so as you fill out the rest of your tax forms, the deductions will already be in there for you.

• A drop-down menu lets you select a deduction category (medical/dental, travel, etc.). When you’re finished entering receipts, NEAT Receipts will do summary reports by tax form then package them up for import into Turbo Tax. This simplifies and streamlines the process, saving do-it-yourself tax doers lots of time.

• If questions arise as to whether or not something is deductible, NEAT Receipts includes current information from the IRS within its software and links to the appropriate parts of the IRS site for additional information.

Scan your insurance policies, meeting notes, medical and dental insurance paperwork, invoices and more. Documents are saved as pdf's and if you need a copy at any time in the future you simply 'print'.
