Last week I spent a good deal of time online surfing for hotels, tours, information and rates for various winter break ideas. It's a long cold winter here in the heartland of the US and a winter get away to some place with sun and sand is important for my sanity. We always make one trek to the Carolina's as the kids have literally grown up there, returning every year since our oldest two were age 3 and 1, but in the last two years I've really felt the pull to get them out to the West coast... our old stompin' grounds so to speak. Our oldest daughter was born there and we've never been back to show her where she was born, the home she lived in as a baby, etc.

I have a lot of wonderful memories of Southern California, especially an impromptu trip my husband and I took to San Diego one day. Without telling him the plan I packed his bags along with mine and kidnapped him after work. I didn't tell him where we were going and in reality I didn't even have a plan myself. I just knew I was taking him to San Diego for a quick two day get-away.

We found a cheap hotel for the night and spent the next day playing tourist. We went to the San Diego Zoo and then to a very popular outdoor mall. I would love the chance to take the kids back to the zoo and show them the area where their sister lived before we transferred to the South.
